Pohl Observatory
Sea West performed maintenance and testing on the observatory dome at Georgia College & State University.
About the observatory
On campus at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia is a state-of-the-art observatory built to conduct research and allow students to gain hands-on experience with astronomy equipment. The Ash Manufacturing 16’-6” houses a PlaneWave CDK24. GCSU opens its doors to the public on a regular schedule and for most special astronomical events.
Project Scope
In 2024, the Georgia College Observatory was experiencing maintenance issues with their Ash Dome. Sea West conducted a full cleaning of the exterior of the dome to remove mold that had developed over the years in the humid environment. The team conducted dome maintenance and a leak-down test to ensure any potential leaks were addressed. All mechanical components of the Ash Dome were serviced and ran through a testing procedure to ensure the dome will perform for their astronomy programs.
Partners
